We’re thrilled to debut Vickie Howell’s Lunch Hour Knit Kits, a set of four great projects exclusive to Kitterly!
We were so excited when Vickie contacted us about working together on a project. While none of us had met Vickie we knew her from her numerous crafting endeavors. We’d seen her on DIY network’s Knitty Gritty, we’d come across her videos while looking up crafting ideas and techniques, we’d sold her books in the store and visited her blog. We were impressed not only with her wealth of knowledge, but with her eagerness for sharing it with the crafting community.
In person she is as enthusiastic and creative as on her videos. Even better, we were on the same page about what we wanted to do. Kitterly’s goal has always been to make crafting easier, to take the struggle and angst out of finding and choosing projects and get started right so that you can finish what you start. Vickie strives to motivate and inspire people to live creatively and make crafting accessible to anyone who is interested.
Vickie had a fantastic idea: Lunch Hour Knit Kits. A set of four accessories that can be done in those snatches of break time you get during busy weeks. As she says, "Look, I get it. During a time of constant data coming at us. Of more work being piled onto fewer employee plates. Of all-hands-on-deck-at-all-times parenting being the norm. I understand what it’s like to feel like it’s impossible to fit even one more thing — especially if it might end up being one more thing that doesn’t get finished — into our busy lives.” These projects would be the kind of projects that you could get done even with that hectic schedule.
We loved it. While we worked together on these projects, Vickie definitely had a vision of what she wanted and how these projects should come out as we picked yarns and colors. The result are some truly fun projects that are truly accessible to crafters.
So, “Work Down, Needles Up” and here are the projects you can get done even during a busy week.
The patio can get chilly, but with this cowl you’ll stay nice and warm. With a few simple stitches and a basic cable you can knit up this beautiful accessory. The Plymouth Baby Alpaca Magna is so soft and chunky you'll wish it took more time to finish!
Hats are always a great, fun and fast project to pick up and put down. Though it looks difficult it's just a clever combination of twisted rib stitches that make the pattern swirl around to the crown. The shaded colorways of Cascade 220 Superwash Effects add depth to the fun texture of the twisted stitches.
The adorable mittens have the great, classic rounded shape of their namesake. Like all the other projects in this grouping the knitting for this is simple, but the honeycomb detail makes it something special. The soft, single ply Manos del Uruguay Maxima yarn makes these a delight to knit and wear.
Here’s a bag you’ll definitely want to take with you to the market and fill up with goodies. The clever construction makes this bag sturdy enough to hold up to the weight of your veggies, but still beautiful in Blue Sky Alpacas Skinny Cotton. There are no complicated stitches here, you’ll have this done in no time!
