We found March’s kit club project while trekking up and down the aisles of a trade show. Amid numerous booths draped with hanks of colorful fiber, we came across Ancient Arts’ animal themed colorways. We knew we had found our March project.

This month’s shipment:

Kitterly March Kit Club

Jagger Shawl by Katya Frankel

featuring Ancient Art’s 75% Superwash Merino/25% Silk Fingering/Sock

Ancient Arts Hand Dyed Yarns is a Canadian company focused on eco-friendly and quality yarns, dyed using environmentally-friendly methods. They aren’t just concerned about the earth, they are also passionate about animals. Their Woof and Meow collections are colorways inspired by the color combinations in the coats of cat and dog breeds. A portion of the proceeds are donated to animal rescue groups.

Ancient Arts Fingering Yarn

Since the Kitterly team are all animal lovers it was hard to objectively pick from the myriad of colorways for our subscribers. We settled on the adorable Kitten Nose Pink, Dalmation, Maine Coon Kali and Weimaraner. But even if you aren’t an animal person the colors are beautiful and the yarn lovely. We sampled many of their yarns by touch and ultimately settled on a luxury blend of superwash merino and silk. Knit up it is soft and warm and has a great drape that comes from the silk.

The pattern is the Jagger Shawl by Katya Frankel, a British designer who has worked on several projects with Ancient Arts. She’s a prolific designer who creates patterns that are approachable with a touch of British Class. We love the airy lace and the unique design, you start with the edging and knit to the top.

Also in this shipment are whimsical vintage inspired needle gauges from Retromantic. These are a fancy but functional addition to your notion collection.

We’re looking forward to next month, and the first Spring Kit Club shipment of 2016!
