February this year is extra special -- because it’s a leap year we get a whole extra day of knitting at the end of the month! To keep you occupied we’re sending you a special Kit Club fit for the month that holds Valentine’s Day -- one that brings thoughts of romance, love and relationships!
This month’s shipment:
Isn’t It Romantic? by Stephannie Tallent,
featuring Lorna’s Laces String Quintet
Isn’t It Romantic? It definitely is! This sweeping crescent shaped shawl starts with garter and ends with whimsical flowers. It’s a shawl to make you think of harps, cupid, and nights where magical things can happen with the people you love.
Designer Stephannie Tallent has been knitting on and off since junior high. Her first foray, after a neighbor showed her the basics, was to make a cabled sweater. She started it up again when she was in the army stationed in Germany, working on several colorwork sweaters. Then, in the early 2000s and now working as a small animal veterinarian, she got the urge to knit once more. This time it stuck and she started coming up with her own beautiful designs.
Beth Casey, the current owner of Lorna’s Laces, doesn't have a classic story of learning to knit at the knee of her mother or grandmother. But one day, at a meeting with two of her colleagues, she noticed they were wearing hand knit sweaters. Intrigued, she went to her local yarn store, signed up for a class and got hooked. Not only did she discover a love of knitting, she had found her community. She was home.
In the fall of 2002 she became owner of Lorna’s Laces, which had started as a small farm with a few sheep and angora rabbits and grown from there.
Lorna’s Laces is known for it’s beautiful hand-dyed colors, in both variegated and solid. String Quintet is a gradient kit of mini skeins in one of Lorna’s most popular yarns, Shepherd Sock. Shepherd Sock is a pleasure to work with and these 5 carefully selected shades will make you sing along with the band. They come together beautifully with Stephannie’s pattern.
Belated Happy Valentine’s Day to all our Kit Club members!
