We’re a month into summer and somehow we’re halfway into the year. There’s still plenty of warm sunshine and long days to pack full of knitting. Our next project is a beautiful piece with a delicate lace edging that will have you thinking of berries ripening under a warm summer sun.
This month’s shipment:
Verduri by Carol Sunday
featuring Sunday Knits Angelic & Eden
Carol Sunday has been a professional knitwear designer for 8 years, but she’s been designing since she learned to knit at the age of 7. While she got an education in engineering, spent time in medical school, and twenty years as an artist creating framed papercuttings, the constant in her life has been knitting.
While she creates for an audience now, she still designs projects that she would both love to knit and wear, and her patterns range from delightfully intricate sweaters to casual shawls to throw around your neck. She lives and works in a historic limestone farmhouse in Northern Illinois and is often inspired by the woods, creek and wildlife outside.
In addition to designing, she has her own yarn line. Part of what excited her as a designer was a color, and after spending time trying to find the right yarn in the right color she realized the best way to get what she needed was to create her own yarn. She works with a mill in Italy that humanely sources it’s fibers. She’s attracted to natural and earthy colors and it’s very important that every color of her yarn works well with her existing palette.
Verduri is a beautiful garter stitch scarf done in a combination of two of her yarns, Eden 3-ply and Angelic 3-ply. The Eden is a wonderfully soft 100% merino wool that makes up the garter body, while the angora content in the Angelic gives the edging a soft halo. And the berries? A picot cast on creates clusters of them that hang below lacey leaves.
We hope you enjoy your July kit club during some lovely, lazy summer days.
