Welcome to the October Shipment of the Kitterly Kit Club!
When did you learn to knit? What draws you to knitting? How did you get started dying yarn? These are the questions that I love asking designers and dyers because the answers I get are always interesting and different.
This month’s shipment:
Wrapped in Silk Shawk by Iris Schreier
featuring Artyarns Ensemble Light and Silk Essence
For Iris Schreier of Artyarns, crafting runs in the family. Her paternal great grandmother ran a yarn shop in Israel and her maternal grandmother was a couturier. While Iris never met the great grandmother, she remembers seeing her grandmother work on her clothing designs for customers. Iris learned to knit as a child but for a long time the craft came and went in her life.
What always seemed to lure her back were luscious luxury fibers in beautiful colors. Once she started knitting again she was inspired to design and, encouraged by friendly yarn shop owners, started working on patterns and eventually a book. In the process of writing this book however, she realized that the luxury fibers she truly loved were very hard to find. To get them, she had to make them herself and start Artyarns.
While her love of the yarn got her designing, when she does design she usually comes up with the garment first and then matches the yarn to the project. For the October Kit Club she wanted something dramatic with a thick-and-thin quality, and the result is the beautiful and drapey Wrapped in Silk Shawl. This month’s project was designed exclusively for Kitterly by Iris..
Happy Halloween everyone!
